the problem occur on the trackpoint, trackpad and usb mouse.
the trackpoint and trackpad work OK in the thinkvantage recovery partition.
I have installed the latest R60 mouse drivers.
how do I test the problem? lenovo thinkvantage toolbox? I am not installing it for now because of microsoft framework 3.5 requirement.
this fault is a persistent, frequent but not always recurring problem. the problem might occur every few days, a week or if I'm lucky 2 weeks but it will def happen again.

software issue? I once got this problem instantly after a bootup so it can't be due to a overloading of system processes. think my laptop has very few unnecessary background process running. next time when problem happens again, I will check the CPU usage.
thanks you and GMAC-R60 for the replies.

A somewhat of a shot in the dark on my part: how is your battery?

the problem happened again. I let the laptop rest for 1 hr. started windows. mouse crusor still stuck on both usb mouse and trackpad. I then went into recovey desktop mode. both the usb mouse and trackpad work in recovery mode but failed in windows xp.
so the problem is likely software, not hardware? would a reinstall of windows xp solve the problem? I have already uninstalled and installed the latest mouse drivers.
