R61 BIOS Beep Symptom (1 short, pause, 3 short, pause, 4 short, pause, 3 short)

Suddenly my R61 (Type 7733-CTO) gives the following sequence of beeps on power on:

short - pause - short short short - pause - short short short short - pause - short short short

Afterwards nothing else happens.

I could not find this sequence of beeps anywhere in the manual or elsewhere. I hope it's fixable and not too expensive for me.
