R61 Bluetooth not found after installing Windows 7

[ Edited ]

The other day I installed Windows 7 on my R61 (8918-B9G) and have been fastidiously downloading all the support drivers I want from support.lenovo.com, meanwhile letting Windows do its thing with all the automatic downloads + updates. But there is still one big problem I can't figure out: the computer's internal Bluetooth device cannot be found! It's like Windows doesn't even know the Thinkpad R61 is bluetooth capable.

Before on Windows XP, I would press Fn+F5 to open a control panel to enable/disable the Wifi radio and Bluetooth. Now after installing Windows 7, pressing Fn+F5 has no effect. Nothing happens.

In Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters there are listed two items: Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection and Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. I read on another thread that my Bluetooth device ought to be listed here in the Device Manager. But it's not there.

In my BIOS, I see Bluetooth is enabled in the space for allow I/O or something.

I tried installing Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II from the support site here, but it doesn't let me install it. Instead, I get this message:

No Bluetooh device was detected. Please make sure that your Bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue installation.

...followed by a single button to Cancel Installation.

Obviously the Bluetooth device is plugged in properly -- it's internal! And worked fine for the last 3 years under Windows XP! Does anyone have any suggetions? I feel like I've tried everything.

Thank you,

Mark

Re: R61 Bluetooth not found after installing Windows 7

Hi facemark,

1. Install Power Mangement driver and Hotkey driver
2. Reboot your system.
3. Press Fn+F5 -> radio on Bluetooth (Windows would detect your Bluetooth and install it's own driver).

4. Install BT driver from lenovo.

Hope this helps.

Hi Helenoftroy2349,

What is 7 character product number of your ThinkPad? It looks like 2668-KHU and can be looked up from the back sticker.

Re: R61 Bluetooth not found after installing Windows 7

Thank you for your reply.

My product number is8718-CGG

I have a thinkpad R16i which was originally with operating system Vista Home Premium.

I updated recently to Windows 7 Ultimate. Up to then Bluetooth was working perfectly.

Now the following happened:

1) If I want to send as an example photos to a cellphone, the "send to Bluetooth"

doesnt exist

2) I have no networ kconnection to Bluetooth there is an "X" to say it isnt connected and

I have tried to connect it but it is impossible.

I have been working hours and hours on this problem but I dont want to give up.

I even reinstalled everything - apparently the drivers are working perfectly.

Any ideas?

From an annoyed Helen

Re: R61 Bluetooth not found after installing Windows 7

Maybe it's a hardware issue then. Try LiveCD of Ubuntu and test your BT there.

Re: R61 Bluetooth not found after installing Windows 7

My Bluetooth started working again so try the following:

Uninstall the driver reboot and reinstall again, Click “Start Menu” then “Control Panel”. Double-click “Device Manager” in the control panel check for any yellow exclamation sign if its your bluetooth device right click and choose uninstall then reboot so that changes takes effect.

1. Click Start button and type “services.msc” (without quotes) and then hit Enter. 2. The services list will load and then locate the “Bluetooth Support Service” and double-click it to activate it. You can try changing the “Startup type” to “Automatic” and see if it fixes the problem.
