After trying three different power adapters and having problems with itermittent charging on my R61e, I'm not wondering if the power jack on the motherboard is defective. If it is, where do I get it repaired? There is a local computer shop that works on them, but they are hacks. Sometimes when they reassemble notebook computers, they have screws left over. Plus, they have a "special" $120 deal to fix motherboard power jack problems. I'm on the East Coast.

you could do it yourself following the manual here.

the part can be bought from ebay for around 10 dollars.
You could also buy some times (if you don't need to take the laptop with you) by getting the port replicator or advanced mini dock (or advanced dock but they are too expensive for what you need it for), which sends power to your laptop through the dock connector. These are available on ebay second hand for around 30 to 100 dollars.
something like this.
