ThinkPad R50e CELERON 370 1.5 GhZ. 1834 BYG S/N S/N 99 05/04 WXDM8

[ Edited ]

Hello Sirs:I have the above:

ThinkPad R50e CELERON 370 1.5 GhZ. 1834 BYG S/N S/N 99  05/04 WXDM8. I would like to know what is the fastest CPU which I can upgrade it from my present Celeron to a faster [M 725 or M 745?] without changing the mother board or the fan units. Namely only upgrading the CPU unit!. Which is the fastest CPU compatilbe? as well as where can I purchase such CPU? if at all it can be pruchased? do you recommending doing it? My  Thinkpad is of little use, almost brand new. Please addvise Sam Frankel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx kinldy note that I am in Israel but I can purchase the cpu from the stae easily via the net as well.

The fastest you can upgrade to is a Dothan Pentium M 2.26 ghz or 780 as some people call it. You can just get it over ebay or something.

Here is the link where you can access the link for your laptop that tells you how to undergo upgrade.

Dear Wjli2:             Thanks for the swift reply. One more questions please. If I go & upgrade the CPU unit to such an advanced one? Will I have aslo to change the Mother- Board? or Screen? or Fan? or any other vital part? . I reiterate when a CPU change only- simply changing the CPU unit, without any other changes, which will be reqruied? Is that correct? thanks for a swift reply. Sam Frankel

You don't have to upgrade anything else when you upgrade to 780 Dothan CPU.

Changing the fan would be a good idea if you're going up to PM780, at least IMHO.
Cheers,
