Wrong memory speed for an R61

Hi all,

I have an R61 laptop that I purchased 2 summers ago and, for Windows 7, I wanted to make the jump from 2gb of ram to 4gb.  However, when I went through my account to find the RAM upgrade, I was told to buy DDR2 PC5300 667mhz RAM.  I was under the impression that my T8100 processor had an 800mhz (DDR2 PC6400) FSB.  I looked at my original build list and the PC5300 is what it is installed, but could/should I have those swapped out for PC6400?

Thanks.

Re: Wrong memory speed for an R61

Hi jmh636,

Welcome to the Lenovo forum. :smileyhappy:

The R61 is built on the GM965 "Crestline" chipset, which supports 800 MHz FSB, and 667 MHz DDR2 RAM. The definitive source for hardware specs of your system is ltwbook.pdf, available from Lenovo's PSREF page (scroll down and select Withdrawn products).

Best regards,

Frank

Re: Wrong memory speed for an R61

also the R61 supports 8 gig of ram, so you could keep that in mind for your future upgrades if need be.
