I have a brand new lenovo R61i 7650-E8G. I have uninstalled some of the preistalled free-trial software (including antivirus software).
When I try to establish a vpn connection via Windows vpn I get a bluescreen with the following message:
stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, *0xA74CC5D8*, 0x00000000).
Also, when I try to connect to the internet through my cell phone I get a bluescreen with the following message (both with bluetooth and usb cable):
stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, *0xA62DC5D8*, 0x00000000).
I receive the bluescreen every time, the number *0x________* is different from time to time.
With my previous laptop (DELL Inspiron 6400) I did not experience these problems and windows vpn connection and internet connection through cell phone worked without any problems.
I am confused what to do? Please help..

Hi,
unfortunately I can't give you any advice, because I'm stuck with exactly the same problem. I've tested it with different VPN Types (PPTP, L2TP) and different VPN-Servers without any success. The VPN is established successfully, but when Windows recieves it's network configuration it stops with a BlueScreen and 0x0000008e.
According to your cell phone issue, it seems that it is only related to the mechanism that assigns network settings provided by ppp, and not by the network drivers. It can be reproduced by using WLAN and LAN with chipsets and device drivers from different vendor.
I hope that someone from Lenovo Support Team reads this posting.

Problem solved !!!
I phoned the Lenovo Support and got the right answer that solved the problem. The BlueScreen is caused by the TVT Packet Filter.
The support mentioned that you have do remove/ deinstall the TVT Packet Filter on all network interfaces (LAN, WLAN, ...). To deactivate is not sufficient and does not work. Afterwards everything should work as expected.
Well, it worked for me and I reproduced it on all three Thinkpad R61i. It's seems to be related to R61i's, because the problem does not occur on the T61's or T41's I have.

I just bumped into this issue tonight.
STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xA0AD6B64, 0xA0AD6860 )
ThinkPad W500, Windows XP Pro (Version 2002 - SP3), lots of RAM and Dual Centrino vPro
VPN = Cisco Client 4.8.01.0300
Will try your fix...

Not sure what fixed it but I disabled BlueTooth (recently upgraded) and stopped all TVT services
That Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox is nasty ! Dunno why, seems like a solid idea but very badly executed!
