drive size , read verification fail

Greetings

I have a R60 laptop with 70GB drive, the drive is reported as 46GB used - which is incorrect. Also a hdd diagnostic reports "error 0000: read verification failed".

The hdd boots and is usable, however when I boot from a xp CD(to run chkdsk), no hdd is present.

Should I toss the drive or is there hope for it. Any advise / suggestions / fixes gladly appreciated.

Much Thanks

Russell

Re: drive size , read verification fail

Hi Russellf,

Welcome to the Lenovo forums :-)

It sounds to me as if your XP boot CD may be lacking the SATA driver to access your hard drive. To test your hard drive I'd recommend booting from the PC Doctor boot CD (available from Lenovo support page) or the Ultimate Boot CD, and running the hard drive tests. If your drive passes the tests, there's no reason to toss it.

The error you report doesn't sound good though. I hope your data are backed up. (If not, do that before running *any* more diagnostic tests!)

Good luck,

Frank
