ATK Hotkey startup failure (ATKGFNEX/ASMMAP)

[ Edited ]

For the last 24 hours, for unknown reasons, our SL500 reports an error during Win XP Pro startup from the Service Control Manager:

"The ATKGFNEX Service service depends on the following nonexistent service: ASMMAP"

I have re-installed the Hotkey drivers and the ATK Hotkey drivers from Lenovo, and the error remains.  Device manager shows ATK0101 ACPI Utility under System Devices.

From the Services menu in Administrative Tools, the ATKGFNEX service confirms it is not started.  When I try to start it manually from Services, it reports "Could not start the ATKGFNEX Service service on Local Computer.  Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

Volume keys etc. appear to work normally.

Within Program Files, in \Lenovo\ATK Hotkey\, there is a binary ASMMAP system file dated 7/24/2007.

Any suggestions on how to repair this error would be very welcome!

W.

Added on March 16: if I uninstall the ATK Hotkey service (Add/Remove Programs), the SL500 then states it has found new hardware (unknown System device) but is unable to find the appropriate driver on the net.

Re: ATK Hotkey startup failure (ATKGFNEX/ASMMAP)

I get the same thing with Vista. Volume buttons are displaying and working fine also.

Also curious as to a "fix."
