Are all SL500's the same?

My school purchased 10 SL500's last year. They're still under warranty. We would like to upgrade them to Windows 7. However I'm told that because we purchased the SL500's with Vista Home instead of Vista Buisness that they can't be upgraded. Is that correct? Is there a physical difference in SL500's purchased with Vista home and Vista Business? Or what is the reason they can't be upgraded? The computer type is 2746.

The information you were given is incorrect. Win Vista Home can be upgraded to Win 7 Home:- http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7/, as for clean install you can put any version of your choice on any flavour of SL500.
