Brightness control (Fn+End, Fn+Home) does not work - SL500

[ Edited ]

I can not use brightness control on my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 (Win7 Professional 32bit), because shortcut Fn+Home/End does not work.

Can someone help me? Which driver I need?

Re: Brightness control (Fn+End, Fn+Home) does not work - SL500

Hi Jirik,

Check this solved thread:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/SL-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/can-t-change-brightness-in-windows-7-on-SL500...

Above thread aside, if you install the hotkey and display drivers from lenovo, it should work as far as I know.

Hope this helps.

I tried the solution, but it did not help me. I have installed display drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_195.62_whql.html ) and hotkey drivers (Hotkey Features Integration and ATK Hotkey Driver), but brightness control does not work.

Do you have nVidia card? What is the 7 character product number of your SL500? Looks like 2668-KHU and can be found on the back sticker.

Mine's also not working.

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad SL410. It has an Intel 4500MHD video and updated to the latest drivers. Same with the Hotkey drivers from Lenovo itself. It's weird cause whenever I uninstall the hotkey drivers, the brightness control works.

Here's my Laptop Specs:

Thinkpad SL410 (2842-DRA)

Core 2 Duo T6670 2.2Ghz

8GB DDR3

Intel 4500MHD

Windows 7 Professional 64bit with Service Pack 1

I hope lenovo has a solution to this. I just bought my SL410. :smileysad:

Re: Brightness control (Fn+End, Fn+Home) does not work - SL500

Okay so I fixed this problem MYSELF.

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

After that I did not install ANY lenovo drivers except for the WiFi driver.

Ran Windows Update and downloaded all updates including Service Pack 1.

Installed and ran the System Update and let it download all the drivers and programs for me.

Now everything works perfectly fine.

Seems like updating to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 while having the drives installed causes problem and not to mention BSOD (caused by the Realtek HD Audio).

Finally I can work! :smileyhappy:

mulawingalang: Did you install NVIDIA drivers? Do you have NVIDIA graphic card? I hope this is the solution for me, although I have Win7 32bit.

Re: Brightness control (Fn+End, Fn+Home) does not work - SL500

I too have this problem. ThinkPad SL410 w/ Win 7 x64 clean install w/ intel video card. FN+HOME or FN+DEL does not change the brightness. All drivers and BIOS files were taken from the LENOVO website.

When the HotKey driver is installed - the brighness OSD does show, but is not able to change the brightness. I can change the brightness from the control panel or from WIN+X

When the HotKey driver is NOT installed - the brightness OSD does NOT show, but i AM able to change the brightness using the FN keys. However, I cant use some of the FN keys (ie FN+F6/webcam) that Windows doesn't have native support. This is my current setting as it's much quicker to use than the other options.

Frustrating. Any chance that Lenovo will put out an update that fixes this?

Hi All,

I have the same problem but additionally with disability of changing the brightness at all... From Power manager or display settings or anywhere you can think of, I cannot change the brightness at all... I have every driver and software updated from original sources as I am struggling with this disease for a couple of months... I don't know what caused this problem but my monitor was set to a very dim state, so it is very annoying not to be able to change it now...

In BIOS settings it is not enabled to change the initial brightness, also changing to LCD to CRT or HDMI doesnt effect anything...

Any Expert help will be appreciated... Please note that I am an advanced user and tried really hard before I write here...

My system runs Windows 7 Proffesional

Thinkpad SL500 Nvidia G 105M

Product: 2746AB4

Serial: XXXXXXX

BIOS: 6AET64WW

Many Thanks

Emre
