How to connect SL510 to Sony flat screen through vga?

I have Lenovo's SL510 and I like to connect it with my Sony Bravia KDL40W2000 flat screen. It must be easy, but it doesn't work. The software to adjust the display modes cannot adjust the features of the 'monitor'. I only can adjust the featurs of the 'display' of Lenovo. For the monitor there is only the frequency.

I downloaded the new driver software but that doesnt make any sense. Same softwarefunctions.

Sony keeps on saying 'unknown signal, adjust the pc settings'.

How to connect through VGA?
