If I install a new hard drive on my SL500, can I just remove the old one and install the new drive. Is there anything I will have to do after it is installed. The new drive will require the same software, VISTA, as the old drive.

Hi enssps,
You can install any modern version of Windows on the new drive as long as you own the license. If you're using recovery media then it'll recover your system to factory state, just like as it was the day you bought it. For clean install, you would need to install drivers for your ThinkPad, just install ThinkVantage System Update and it'll automatically find and install drivers for you:- http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?Legacy
Hope this helps.

You can replace you current hard-drive with any hard-drive capacity up to 1 TB ( please check your BIOS version ), Of course you can use your current hard drive as external hard drive via USB external hard drive box.
