Bad memory. How many modules did you buy? Did you buy used [i.e. ebay]? Try inserting only one and power on. Figure out which one is damaged.
The memory, even if your SL500 doesn't support the higher speed, will drop to PC2-5300 speeds. But Intel shows that all the chipsets I posted support PC2-6400.

Yes, memtest86 will let you know if they are bad.
New does not mean that it works. Just remember that. If it results in bad memory, just RMA them back to NewEgg.
