I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 or Realtek issue or both. The mute function automatically goes on and off even without any audio playing. This had been an intermittent problem and now it's lasted a couple of days. When I open up Sound Manager I cannot control the Mute function. Have even tried hitting the Mute button and a Volume control button to see if that would work.
I've got an SL410 running Win 7 professional 64-bit. I've updated most if not all important MS updates and updated the Realtek driver yesterday. Since that didnt work I spoke with Lenovo rep and downloaded HotKey fix, coded DS014985 which were new drivers; no go.
Ran a full system diagnostics test using Lenovo tools; all systems passed. Even did a reboot after disabling startup and all non-boot-critical apps (only MS apps enabled). Also uninstalled and reinstalled Realtek drivers. I'm out of ideas...any other suggestions would be appreciated. I'm past my warranty and need my speakers for presentations and other media.

hey darryl,
curious to know if you uninstalled the current audio driver as well as the HotKey software. once those two have been removed, do the Diagnostic mode via msconfig.
does the button work? If i'm not mistaken, Win7 should install its own generic driver and the Mute button should work with generic drivers.
