Need BIOS keyboard walkthrough

Hi,

After 2 relatively problem free years my SL500 now powers on but the screen is extremely dim. 

I've hooked up an external monitor via VGA but pressing the function keys on the keyboard do not switch over to it.  It might be because I am using Ubuntu & not Windows.

Can I make the request from someone here to go into their BIOS for me?  I think I remember a setting there where you can set the desired display device to use from boot.

I just need a step-by-step walkthrough of what keys to press to set an external monitor as the default screen.

Sounds like the backlight died.

I'm not sure what the key order for the SL500 is, but you can hold up a flashlight to the screen to see the words.

Thanks for the flashlight tip.  I managed to change the BIOS setting.
