SL 500 speakers

I got an SL 500 at the beginning of last year and the hard drive crashed a few months ago. I got another hard drive and this time it has vista on it (I had XP on the old one). The speakers were working fine but then I used head phones. I changed the settings to head phones but then when I took the head phones out, the normal speakers had disappeared from the available sound devices list. Now I can't get any sound out of the laptop through the normal speakers or the head phones.

Help?
