Re: SL Review

Those are true points regarding the SL series. I look forward to the new W and T series.

Hello everyone,

In case you didn't read my introductory post, I am a product manager on the SL series. Has anyone had the opportunity to see and/or feel these machines in person? I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the robustness of the SL series. When we designed the SL series, one of the most crucial design points was the rock-solid reliability that the ThinkPad family is known for. The SL series lives up to its ThinkPad branding by meeting the exacting standards of durability that we've set for it. If it means anything at all, I get to choose any ThinkPad I want as my work system, and I am moving from a T61p to an SL300. I am paranoid about losing all the data that I have on my system, and I have no doubt that my SL300 will be just as reliable as my T-series has been.

Re: SL Review

Yes, please tell us if there is a magnesium chassis. Obviously, there is no internal roll cage. How is the SL just as durable as a T61P?

Can you stand on it, just as Lenovo sales representatives preach at corporate sales meetings?

I am very interested in this computer. However, I feel that your statements regarding equal durability to a T Series are unfounded.

Please prove me wrong!

To clarify my previous post, I understand your comments on reliability. Obviously, every Lenovo product is reliable.

I just do not understand this:

"The SL series lives up to its ThinkPad branding by meeting the exacting standards of durability that we've set for it."

Personally, I like the X300 and how it has all come together.

The only thing I did NOT like was the fact that it uses the Alps touchpad and not the Synaptics touchpad as historically all ThinkPads use.

I see that the SL sports most of the same design queues and that the touchpad looks to be an Alps one as well.

Is this true? If it is, and Lenovo is trying to go for a cheaper touchpad instead of using the Synaptics touchpad, then what a shame.  I would come to think at this point that Lenovo is taking this product line in a downward slope considering all the changes they have made and now including this one.

Honestly speaking, Synaptics is the superior product when it comes to touchpad accurracy & sensitivity.  The feel and usage of all Alps touchpad product lines are just sloppy.

Please reconsider this change with your future notebooks.

Best,
