Blue Screen Loop - infected with fake "XP security guard"

[ Edited ]

Hey guys, I finally get to see the blue screen of death and any help would be appreciated. I have a T-61running on Widnows XP service pack 3. I can get to see the Windows XP loading page for a few second then it will go directly to the bluescreen saying "windows shut down to prevent failure". I tried to go on safe mode and "return to previous working mode" but they are all the same.

In order to pinpoint the problem, this is what happened in detail

My laptop was infected with some fake "XP security guard" virus few days ago and I had successfully removed them with Malwarebytes. It must had deleted some registries in the process becuase my laptop was then unable to locate any .exe file, then I look up on a forum and download a regustry for this, it seemingly solved the problem but after several minutes my laptop suddenly restarted and went in this dead loop.

Unlike my desktop, I can't seem to find the "disable restart for system failure" on the F8 screen. And weird enough, I can't find any restore point on my Thinkpad Rescue page (I rarely save restore points, maybe they are too old?) Please kindly advise me what I should do. Thank you.

p.s. is there anyway I can download all the resgistries to a USB so I can attempt to do the recovery from it??

Re: Blue Screen Loop - infected with fake "XP security guard"

You probably had an incomplete removal because most likely you had additional malware on there that may have been downloaded by the rogue. Editing the registry could have created an additional problem, unless you knew exactly what you were doing and are familiar with the registry,

As long as you have already run MBAM, in order to save time, I would suggest posting your issue, including your troubleshooting steps, at a forum that can have a trained analyst work one-on-one with you to clean up the remnants of the malware.

You can post a diagnostic log at one of these forums:

Additional forums that offer HijackThis analysis can be found at the links in the recommended sites section on these pages:

* Please make sure you read the information on how to post the required logs at whichever forum you select.

It appears that you posted here a few minutes after posting at Lenovo: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/blue-screen-loop-564381.html

TSF has a good malware removal forum. They will help you.
