64 bit Win7 - T410 - USB hard disk problem

I have a T410. i5, 4gb, intel chipset.

Windows 7, 64 bit, english, with localization.

If I attach an external usb hard drive, it gets a drive letter, but I cant browse it.

4 usb hdd-s. there is sata, and pata, and there is 2,5, and 3,5 with own power.

I tried bios set to default, after that 2 of 4 disks worked for about 5 minutes.

The usb drives works perfectly in all other computers.

What shall I do???

No. It seems just loading...

If I try to go to disk management, it also freezes.

If I unplug the disk, it loads. If I replug, it freezes again.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Are other computers also using Windows 7 64 bit version? Do you know the partition file system these drives are using? Same thing happens on my Win based PCs when I attach Mac partitioned Journaled drive to them.

Check these two thread:-

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/c74b7b51-697f-4a73-a9f8-acc2a5d...

Further, make sure all drivers from lenovo and updates from Microsoft are installed.

Hope this helps.

Re: 64 bit Win7 - T410 - USB hard disk problem

I have the following drives:

2,5 - 40gb - pata

2,5 - 500gb - sata

3,5 - 250gb - pata

3,5 - 750gb - sata

They are all ntfs.  All they work properly with windows XP, and Vista systems, some, for several years. Theye were never connected to any Mac system.

First I plugged the 500gb. It worked properly for about 10 minutes. After that it disconnected. Then I plugged in 40gb, same. After that the two 3,5" hdd was connected via Belkin usb hub (also powered). Sata worked, Pata not.

I installed all the updates from windows update and lenovo update. (Bios also was flashed). Than I made a bios default setting.

Now I have only 500gb plugged in. I start to copy, and it losts connection.

I go to disk management. It writes connecting to  virtual disk management. And its just waits.

Thanks for the details.

I'm not sure whether your T410 qualifies, but here is a hotfix from MS:- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972

Keep us posted.

Im not sure this would be ok, my laptop has an intel chipset / mainboard, this solution is for nvidia chipset.

Shall I try it anyway?

It wouldn't hurt, the fix should tell you, otherwise.

Re: 64 bit Win7 - T410 - USB hard disk problem

Any chance that you have tweaked your power settings in the power manger?

Also, do you have another system running Win 7 64 bit on which you can test the drives? if not then, try booting from LiveCD of any popular linux distro to test whether Win 7 or your T410 is at fault.
