I simply inserted my SDHC card into the reader and the "Green," light came on.
As soon as this occured the computer mounted the device making the *beep* noise and showed the device.
Try a different card, or make sure you are inserting it correctly. the green light is coming on.

i have not been able for the life of me to find out if the SD cards stick out or not when inserted in the media slot.
Could you tell me if they do? and by how much? (like 1 mm or like 1 cm?)
Also, if possible, is it a Fast card reader or is it Really slow? you can use ATTO to benchmark the speed of the card reader.

The card does not stick out at all. You have to push it in again to release it. It looks like if downloads faster than my other LT where I use a reader connected to the USB port.

I am having the same problem the OP had, but not figuring it out at all. I am trying to read an SD-micro media card that I used to have in my Blackberry. I have it in the adapter that came with the card, which is physically about 4 times the size and twice the thickness of the original 8gig card. What I am being told by Lenovo tech is that the media card reader is the slot on the left side near the front of the Thinkpad, but that slot is 3 times the width, 5 times the height, and twice as deep as the adapter is long. It just falls in like it's a cavern, like dropping a business card into a toaster slot, and I have to turn the PC up on end and pry the slot door with my fingers and shake it out, since it is just loose in the cavity. The supposed "ejection buttons" (2 gray plastic spring loaded pegs near the left front) don't do anything but pop themselves in and out when you press them, whether there is a card adapter sitting in the slot or not. Is there a special extra adapter needed for the adapter to actually fit (as opposed to loosely sit) in the slot?

If you have the cdrom drive set to power down in your power profile then make sure you "wake it" before trying to use the card reader. I struggled with this for a few moments myself and accidently hit the eject button which woke up the cdrom drive and for some reason woke up the sd card slot as well. I'm guessing their power is shared in some way.. though it doesn't make too much sense.
I have the reader in a T400 but no instructions on how to use it. I put a SD card in and nothing happens. Anyone have theirs working or have instructions etc. Thanks.

your problem is very simple. you have the same problem i do. you simply do not have a card reader. you have both pcmcia and expresscard slots on your machine. you need to buy a card reader to read your card. dont buy the AFT one from newegg as it desnt work with the t400.

I know this is a simple question, but does my Sony Memory Stick Duo Pro go in words facing down or up and with words reading from right or left. I have tried them all ut to no avail. I'm using the T410s. Thank you so much!
