Hi
I'm planning to buy a T420S and planning to replase the 160 Gb SDD disk
with Samsung 830 SERIES 512GB SSD SATA/600 MLC.
Has anybody tried this? My sales rep from Lenovo cant giv me an answer if it works.
Best regards
Sten

You can install Samsung 512gb in ultra-bay instead of CD driver (you'll need an ultra-bay adapter), but you can't install it in Main-bay which only supports 1.8 format drive.

You are wrong. T420s uses 2.5" disk with 7mm height, My qusetion is if bios etc supports the big disk.

I am using a 750GB Hitachi HDD with a W510, and have also used it in the T420. It appears the BIOS and systems don't have an issue with that capacity size so I think your chances are pretty good for the 500GB SSD.

You should have no problem. My T510 supports a 500GB hybrid as the main drive and another in Ultrabay. 420S is a generation newer.

I don't know why it wouldn't work, but Lenovo won't guarantee compatibility with SSDs that you buy from somewhere else. It should work, but you might also ask Samsung if they have tested that particular model in Lenovo systems.

I'm sorry, I messed up T420s with T410s.
But anyway what is the point of your question? If T420s supports 2.5 format SSD in Main bay, it will support all SSD with 2.5 format. I don't see any reason why Samsung won't be compatible with your laptop.

Keeping in mind the height of the drive comes into play on the T420s in the primary bay. The bay requires a 7mm drive. As I recall, all of the new Series 830 Sammy SSD drives are 7mm thick.

I am currently running a Samsung 830 512GB SSD inside the primary HDD slot in my T420s, and it has passed 30 P/E's of stress test without a single glitch. The only problem I can see is the maximum temperature exceeding 60C at maximum load.
