I have paired my device and it shows up in the Bluetooth Devices list under Devices and Printers. Right clicking and selecting properties shows the device is working properly and drivers are installed. Double clicking produces a pop-up window Bluetooth Control. Within that window there's a message: An error occurred when initializing this operation. Try restarting your computer and/or the Bluetooth device. Restarting does not solve the problem and the troubleshooter does not detect any problems. What am I doing wrong?

Hello Canandaigua_Man,
I understand the frustration this may cause you but with a little more information we can work toward a solution.
What is your machine type and model for this computer?
Is this the only Bluetooth device that does this or is it multiple?
What Operating System are you using?
Hope this helps,
Alex

I would try removing the the bluetooth device. Then re-discover and pair it again. But keep the device being paired close to the notebook. The range may have been or is the problem.
I have a Palm Treo which I use as a PDA and sync to Palm Desktop after oh, 15 years I guess since Palm came out with a PDA. anyway the Treo 650 effective bluetooth range is approx 2ft. I set it beside the Thinkpad and did all the above and once my Desktop app was configure for hotsync via bluetooh it worked.
Give it a go, it doesn't take too long. Maybe removing the existing config may take longer than redoing it.

Had done all that before posting. Device seems to pair properly, but still get the error mentioned in my original post.

Error occurrs after pairing. Device in question is a Bluetooth headset. I can see it in the device list and the drivers are installed.

Then I would say there is a conflict or incompatibily between the two versions of devices or ther BT versions. My lastes cell phone would not work with a older bluetooth mirror I have for my Jeep. But it worked with other newer visor units I got. It will work with another cell phone. I just don't use it anymore.
Have you tried another bluetooth device to see if it works with the notebook?
I am no Bluetooth expert but I know my notebook is Bluetooth 3.0 and not sure where the incompatibity come in with other device. But it does. If its new I would get another headset and set or another model.
But at the end of the day I am sure thats where your problem is.

Ok, the thing you need to do is go to the link below and click on the Bluetooth and Modem tab this will have a drop-down box.
You need to update your Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II for Windows 7. Click click for files and follow the instructions on the update.
Have you ever been able to make this device or another device work with your computer?
Hope this helps,
Alex

Alex,
The device works fine with my cell phone, but not with the computer. Have not tried to use any other device with the computer.
I didn't see a link in your message to update Bluetooth software. Will you please send the link again?
