Today, I started the computer as usual and was greeted an unfamiliar generic black screen, with just the Recycle Bin in the top left corner.
When trying to access the C drive through the Start Menu, I get this message:
"C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannnot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."
What could be the cause of this?
I have been having more issues with this laptop than I have had all 6 years of using an Dell Inspiron 8600....

Thank you for the reply. I checked and it is there. I will also run CHKDSK to be sure. Seems to have many causes, including software updates.
I am hoping this is a one-time thing.
