Cannot turn on T500 Wi-Fi radio - Fn -> F5 does not work

The T500 is booting with the Wi-Fi radio off.  When I try to turn it on, and press the Function - F5 combination, nothing happens -- the usual wireless app or screen does not come on.  Nothing happens.

 

I would appreciate any suggestions folks might have.  Thanks!
