Ethernet Yellow Data Transmission Light Won't Stop Blinking

My new T500 ethernet yellow data transmission light won't stop blinking. I guess this means I'm constantly transmitting data over my cable internet connection. Is this okay?

Hello Mgordon514,

have you installed messanger software like Skype, ICQ or anything else?

They could produce some data transfer ove time and a continously blinking LED.

Re: Ethernet Yellow Data Transmission Light Won't Stop Blinking

Thank you for your reply, Agotthelf. Haven't installed any messenger software myself, although the PC may have come with it. I've also noticed that as long as I'm connected to my cable modem, the yellow light blinks -- even when the computer is off. So assuming the yellow light means data is being transferred, how can this be when the computer is shut down?

Re: Ethernet Yellow Data Transmission Light Won't Stop Blinking

Hello MGordon514,

please let us know your operating system.

Do you hibernate or completely shut it down?

Vista has some features called hybrid sleep, google for information to disable it.

So it won´t get down completely, when you hibernate it.

Also you should disable all devices which are allowed to wake up your system in Bios.

Running Windows XP Professional, Version 5.1.2600, Service Pack 3, Build 2600.

I don't hibernate, just completely shut down.

Thanks again for your quick reply.

Re: Ethernet Yellow Data Transmission Light Won't Stop Blinking

Hi,

then check in your bios,if the option wake on lan is disabled.

Also in your device manager, take a look into your network card settings and disable the option device can wake up the system.

The command  powercfg (insert into Start-->run) shows you a list of devices that are enabled to awake your system.

You can disable each in device manager.
