How to disable on-screen display microphone pop-up

Question

I have had my T500 and it seemed that every time I use my microphone the indicator "popup" comes on screen. This is highly annoying since I perform a lot of video captures and that popup obscures a great deal of real-estate. 

You know the one - it has a black background, has a speaker like icon (white) and a level white bar horizontal up to 25 at the bottom center of the screen. 

How do I change this?

Answer

This can be changed through a control panel setting change in Windows.  Here's how:

Right click on the Desktop>Screen Resolution>Advanced>On Screen DIsplay>uncheck Enable.
