Lenovo T400-2767-CT0 - Memory upgrade

I want to upgrade my Lenovo Thinkpad T400-2767-CT0 to the maximum amount of supported memory (RAM) but I am not sure if the laptop supports 4 or 8 GB of RAM. 

I have tried to install 2 x Corsair Value Select 4GB DDR3 1066MHz CL7 SODIMM (CM3X4GSD1066) but are not working. (beep 1-3-3-1). I have also tried to use only 1 x 4GB stick but it does not work as well. 

Does that mean that my laptop does not support 8GB of RAM or the two sticks were problematic?

8 gigs but many Corsair ram modules have compatibility issue.

Can you please suggest me some other compatible ram modules?

Samsung, gskill, kingston non value line, Etc. when you get crucial ram avoid the value line.
