Lenovo T520 DisplayPort Issue

Hello all!

I'm currently having an issue getting my DisplayPort to work properly.

Right now I am currently using a Lenovo T520 Laptop, and a DisplayPort to VGA adapter.

My monitors are functional and so is the the adapter.
Can anyone give me some advice?

Oh sorry, I kinda worded it improperly.

Basically, my monitor that is hooked up to the DisplayPort doesn't recieve a proper signal.
My computer detects something but nothing is going through.

You may have to toggle the screen mode Fn-F? key combo to change the output. I tested mine with a display port to a HDMI to a TV and a prompt came up as well as info on the screen. But VGA is uni directional so it may be different.

I don't have my T520 here so I can't verify which key combo but have a look. Are you using Win7? Also going in the Intel display control panel may give you output settings.

It is Fn+f7, it comes up with a prompt for the display settings.
Changing the output doesn't appear to make any difference.

 I looked into the Intel display control panel, but can't find anything related to displayport, just some generic output settings.

For the record, I am using a T520, running Windows 7 Enterprise, Intel (R) Core(TM) i5 - 2520M CPU @ 2.5 GHz.

I'd have to say your adapter is defective. If you just got it can you get it exchanged/replaced?

There is not a hole lot to getting it working. Do you have Intel Graphics only or Nvidia as well?

I think I'm on to something here.

I did a print-screen to see what was going on, and I came up with a screenshot with both monitors.

This must mean there is an output problem on the monitor.
However, the monitor is perfectly functioning (I have tested it several times).

Could the problem be the adapter?
It's an SVGA to DisplayPort (vice-versa).
Could it be affecting it?

In the 2nd monitor settings be sure the output does not exceed the technical abilities of it. Eg 60HZ or 70HZ refresh is typical & higher won't work. Resolution 1280x1024 max at least to start with or lower depending on it.

Some monitors will protect themselves from out of range signals and not attempt to display anything so as not to blow the oscillators.

Thats all I can think of otherwise the adapter is defective.

Well I've tried all your suggestions as well as plenty of others I found.
I'm starting to think it's because of the DisplayPort to SVGA adapter.
I'm using a VGA to VGA (males) cable with an SVGA adapter, I believe that is the only logical explanation.

Time to get spend another 30-40$ on an adapter.

Wow, you're buying them from the wrong place. Get that one exchanged first since its paid for.
