Need Help With W510 Screen Resolution At 1920x1200

Hi,

I have a new Lenovo W510, and I want the screen resolution to be 1920x1200. I seem to be able to force it to that resolution, but the screen is bigger than the physical screen, and I have to actually move the desktop image around to get to everything. My T61p supports this resolution with no issues.

Can I do this with my W510?

If you bought the FHD screen, then it's a native 1920x1080 display panel.

If HD+, then 1600x900.

If HD, then 1366x768.

It depends which display panel you have.

Only the W500 had a 15.4" 1920x1200. The W510 is in a 16:9 ratio, which kinda sucks.

This is a work issued notebook, so I had no choice! I currently have it set at 1600x900, so I guess HD+. Sounds like you're saying the resolution I want is not possible?

No. The resolution is physically limited by the number of addressable points on your LCD display. Unless you buy a FHD-equipped T510 or W510, or buy a FHD panel and install it yourself, you'll have to use the native 1600x900. There may be drivers that can forcibly squeeze 1920x1080 into 1600x900 like they do for the first generation netbooks, but that would make everything blurry.

Argh...that really sucks! I feel like I'm reading a large type book when I use my laptop!

Any thoughts on where I could find a FHD panel?

LCD panels are not like CRTs. If the resolution is 1600X900 it means there are 1600 colums of physical LCDs and there are 900 rows intersecting.

That is exaclty why my T61p lives on.  The company is ready to take it back and replace it, but I hide it anytime somebody asks.

Yeah I'm hoping for a WUXGA 15" model again. T520 with a 1920x1200 display would be sweet.
