Why is there no option for a quad i7 for the T52 in Canada?
The option is available on the US site, and looking at the 2012 Tracking thread, it seems the laptops are shipped from Asia...
How do I get a quad i7 in a T520 in Canada? (without spending an additional 500 dollars and getting a W520?)

Thanks mate. Looking at the ThinkPad PDF, it appears that there is a T520 with the three processors offered on the Canadian site, and another T520 allowing 5 processors configurations(including two i7 quads).
If they are being shipped from Asia, I just can't see why the Candadian site is being only offered the first T520.
I'd buy it today.
I notice you have a T520 Quad in your signature, and you are from Toronto.
How did you pick up the quad?

Hi eddie001,
Have you tried calling sales? At least here on the US side, when I call, the sales rep often has access to machines not shown on the web site. And often an e-coupon discount...
I don't speak for Lenovo and can't guarantee anything, but it's probably worth a call. 1-866-96-THINK ( I think )

Hi Zoltan. I have chatted to a sales rep and emailed her also. No change in the configuration.
Also talked to someone in sales at the number you mentioned who also couldn't do anything but offered some ecoupon for a W520 so I could get a quad (never did get the coupon, but I doubt it would be big enough to make me pay more for the W series)

There was a sales special limited time and the option was there for the selected CPU. I have looked and downloaded loads of PDF, owner manuals to see what the ports included are since they don't list them EG No USB 3.0 (a bit of a joke since its 2 years old now). You get display port full size instead of HDMI which you'll need to pump to a TV screen etc. You'll need an adapter to handle that though. Really all unnecessary design issues. If you buying DON'T get the 1x1 WiFi default card, its realtek and I've had nothing but trouble connecting with it. Get one of the Intel upgrades EG 6300 which should be a default in top of the line brand and configuration. Realtek has no business being in business class machine and relegated back to entry level cheap sub $500 notebooks below i3 processors.
If you're buy both a premium line as well as upgraded performance system. It only natural to expect and GET premium chipsets and components in the subsystems of the notebook. Not the bottom of the food chain with modules designed to be real cheap for netbooks or whatever at the bottom price bracket. You'd expect qualith network interfaces, tier 1 components and drives in a rock solid design with state of the art quality screens.
It used to be that way. I know being in the business for two decades.
Call for a sales rep and forget the online chat. You end up with someone who does not know the product line.

Thanks for your help. I was trying to get within the current 15% off window to buy a ThinkPad, but I think I'll just wait and do a little bit more research (especially with my FW situation in the other thread [thanks]). It does appear that there is some slippage in quality concerning the TP over the years.![]()

If no hurry, I'd wait a bit. The Ivy bridge refresh should be around in a month or 2 (T530?).

Or you might like to hurry to avoid those tacky new keyboards coming in the Ivy Bridge refresh.

I would sitll wait. If it not as you want. then simply look at another manufacturer and get the technology you want done right. But verify everything as best you can including downloading owners manual etc for online orders.
A lot can be hidden when you don't have hands exposure. As in online ordering without full disclosure.
