Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7 - FIXED AT LAST?

@betalemer,

It seems that the 3 apps which you are having issues with are beta apps? Could you try official released apps first as this could be a compatibility issue with beta softwares.

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7 - FIXED AT LAST?

Didn't work for me!

Switchable graphics was installed and I could manually switch, however, it would not automatically switch if I went to battery power.  Also, I did not see any switchable graphics configuration sub menu on the ATI side and when I tried selecting it on the Intel side, nothing would happen.

I had previous used ATI Cataylst 10.8 drivers directly from ATI.  Prior to that install,  I had no switchable graphics at all.  not even any sub menus or anything that referred to switchable graphics.

I removed the ATI Catalyst Install manager from the control panel.   Then I went to dev. manager and removed the device and selected the option to delete the drivers from my system.   ATI Control Panel (CCC) was still present on the system so I removed it  by running the set up program again (for 10.8) and selected to uninstall.

Upon reboot, both video cards were uninstalled as per the dev mgr.

tried to run the Intel driver set up 1st but could not.  said I did not have a qualified product or something (weird)

So ran the new Lenovo ATI drivers.

it ran,  I noticed it only asked me to install Visual C++ and Something else...(I forgot but thought it was strange)

rebooted, then the system identified my graphics card, then needed another reboot.  At this point, I had no switchable graphics.

Ran the lenovo set up once again from the ATI folder in program files,   one the 2nd install attempt, it installed properly.

I had switchable graphics  but it did not seem to work correctly.

I have since done a system restore back to my previous setup.

anyone recommend  a different approach to installing these drivers?

@JameZ

Here's my machine setup

Model :T400 with P8400

Product : 276533U (according to ThinkVantage Toolbox)

OS : Win 7 x64

Lenovo preload OS?  No

3rd party CCC (non-Lenovo)?  Installed the official CCC that came with the new driver

Settings in BIOS?  both

Power Manager Version: 3.30

BIOS : 3.19

RAM installed : 4GB

Programs that has problem using Intel driver - Firefox 4 beta 7, live messenger 2011 (when opening a chat window or when trying to list the contacts on the main screen), and IE 9 Beta, Outlook 2007 (when getting into the Outlook Today screen). Notice that Outlook 2007 and Live Messenger 2011 are NOT beta apps. Thank you.

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7 - FIXED AT LAST?

@JameZ

Just like what Edbert saying, Live Meseenger 2011 that I used isn't beta software.  Firefox 3.6 works fine but so do Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 if I disable hardware acceleration feature from the browser.  I believe all softwares that had problem has some direct 2d acceleration feature which is incompatible with the intel side of the driver.

Thanks.

I haven't tried it on my T400 yet, but on my T500(product ID # in sig) running Win7 Ultimate x64 the fix is working flawlessly.

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7 - FIXED AT LAST?

I also have problems with the new switchable graphics driver. Live Messenger 2011 does not start at all (freezes and crashes on the startup screen) if I have power saving mode (intel driver) selected. When going dedicated (ati), it works fine.Live Messenger 2011 is released software, not beta.

You correctly said that beta applications should not be reported, but nevertheless, IE9 Beta crashes with the Intel driver. Because the issues seems to concern both beta and released software, I would also assume that there is some sort of problem with the 64bit intel drivers in the package.

Model: T500 (2055-3AG)

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

Lenovo preload OS? No

3rd party CCC: No

Settings in BIOS: both / OS discoverable

Power Manager version: 3.30

BIOS: 3.15

RAM: 4Gb (I don't know what preload tested means, the computer came with 4Gb, I did not change the RAM)

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7

Same problem here:

Thinkpad T400

Win 7 32-bit

Switchable Graphics Driver version: 8.752.4-101022a-107489C

Issue with IE 9 / Firefox 4

When the hardware acceleration of the browsers are active and the the Intel graphic is selected, they crash. No problem with the ATI card, though. Even when the IE 9 is running and I want to switch graphic cards, Power Manager tells me that it is not posible due to a program using 3D stuff which I think it really means some software is using Direct2D stuff.

waiting for a fix

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7

I've also encountered spontaneous crashes of Outlook 2010 when running Intel graphics. Switching to ATI made the crashes disappear.
