Hi paradiddle,
Can you check your power options for Windows and see if it is put to "Never" for HDD.

Yes, I had already done that... I never have my harddrive set to off on my laptop is.
I also checked, and harddrive settings are still as they should be - stop spinning after 60 min when on A/C power.
And when 'Lid is closed' the computer is scheduled to 'Do nothing' on A/C Power.
Power managers and windows updates - all up to date.

Anyone have any ideas?
New things that have developed on my computer - all build quality related --
1) Lock on lid clicks/doesn't unlock properly
2) Screen is starting to curve (seen from sides)
3) Keyboard rattles/doesn't stay completely down on the right side... so when tapping arrow keys it gives an annoying sound/sounds like it's broken
4) Screen has 2 bright spots
