At the end of last year we purchased just over 330 T410 laptops. In 6 months we have had 13 with cracked LCDs. I can say that 2 where caused by the users. Pen left on one units keyboard and there was a dropped unit with scratches on the corner were visible. If this continues we will end up with 26 units per year getting mysterious cracke. We did not experience these problems with the Dell D620/D630 series we had for 4 years prior to the T410.
One of our users claimed that the support tech at IBM told him that the LCDs could not support high temperature variations. No details as to what these variations are. We are nationwide so each area will have a variety of temps.
I remember back about 4 years ago watching live demos by IBM reps that would stand on the laptops and pour water in the keyboard. The units looked tough. Has something changed? The specs looked reallty good when we were comparing manufacturers last year.
Anybody else experiencing a high failure rate of unexplainable cracked LCDs ?
Thanks
