T40 - desktop not showing up [ Edited ]

desktop doesn't show up at all. after i login on my laptop, only the wallpaper shows up. is there a way to restore the system without a cd through the setup or something? i think the files have been corrupted

do you still have your Rescue and Recovery partition during initial post??? Press the blue button next to the volume control key on your keyboard to activate the Rescue and Recovery during the initial boot up, to see whether you still have them.

Open the task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del and clicking on Task Manager.  Go to the Processes tab and end task to all of the explorer.exe.  Note:  iexplorer.exe is for internet explorer so don't end task to those unless you want to.  Than go to the Application tab and click on the bottom on New Task..  Type in explorer.exe and click OK.  Desktop should be back now.
