All,
Currently I am unable to do a clean install using the default AHCI mode set for storage in the BIOS.
I am booting from a Windows XP SP3 cd and it inmediately gives a BSOD after loading the drivers using the default windows install.
I already downloaded the Latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers from the Lenovo Website ( 7zim06ww.exe ).
This package includes for different versions of the driver.
I loaded the drivers during the install using the F6 option and having the drivers on a floppy drive.
I tried all 4 of them with the same BSOD result directly when it tries to start Windows during the install.
- Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/M SATA RAID Controller
BSOD " Stop 0x0000007B"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103
When I install Windows Vista on it ( the default pre-installed version ) it shows the driver "Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller"
When I use this driver for XP during the install of XPSP3, no go...blue screen.
Does anyone have an Ideah as I cannot find anything on this on the Lenovo Website.
Regards,
Anthony

Update :
OK, I managed to install XP SP3 on the machine, but the only way to do this so far is by setting the BIOS option for the SATA to "Compatibility" mode so that it sees the controller as the traditional one, for which Windows XP SP3 has it's default driver.
I will give below a try ( even though I have tried installing it with an external floppy drive :
If you do not have a diskette drive, you can install Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver by the following alternative procedure:
I'll keep you posted on the outcome of this.

Update :
Issue solved by doing the post-install of the driver ( See previous post )
So : First set to compatibility mode, install windows, Install the driver using the prepare.cmd, shut down, switch bios setting to AHCI and the reboot again.

Had exact same issue on T500 showing BSOD after system restore with default BIOS settings enabling AHCI.
After fresh install of Vista the driver is found at "C:\SWTOOLS\drivers\IMSM\PREPARE\install.cmd" and requires that you right click and "Run as Administrator" or else the install will fail.
