T400 PROBLEMS with switchable graphics card technology.

[ Edited ]

i bought T400 a few months ago. without installing any other drivers.
BUT yesterday,
i install one of the driver (which is said to be able to enable the switchable graphic card)
from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70417.html

i download the files and then extract all.
then i went to the place where i extract and install the setup file.

AFTER installing and restrting, i right click on the destop and click Catalyst Control Center.
BUT it popped out a Catalyst Control Center Notification:

"ATI Catalyst Control Center cannot be started because the currently active GPU is not supported."

after this nothing came out.

Anyone can teach me how to fix this?
how to CHANGE my GPU,
how to make my switchable graphics card USABLE.

thanks in advance. need to solve this problem. appreciated. =]

I'm no pro, but i just installed a new OS and came across the same error message. All i did to solve the problem was to install SP1 for Vista.

I'm not sure this applies to you, but it might be worth a thought.

I think your problem can be solved very easily - you're probably running on integrated (Intel) graphics while trying to open Catalyst Control Center. That's why it gives this error message. To switch to discreete graphics (ATi) you need to RIGHT click on the battery icon in the task bar, you'll see a menu called "Switchable graphics" there. Just select the "High Performance" option and the software will switch to ATi card.

Then you can use the Catalyst Control Center to adjust anything to your liking... ;-)

EDIT: I should have also mentioned that switchable graphics can currently be used only in Vista.

Hi ... Im just solving the same issue while i hit your post ...

you clicked the wrong power icon (from windows) you need to right click the battery icon from Lenovo's power manager, its just left from all the windows system tray icons. You have to install Lenovo power manager or activate the tray icon for Power manager in order to do the correct RMB on it :smileyhappy:)

Re: T400 PROBLEMS with switchable graphics card technology.

Hey Everyone,

I'm having the same problem but with my t500.  I know for certain that I have the ATI, but when I click on the battery option, all I get is...

Remaining Percentage

Remaing time on battery

Close Power Manager Gauge

Launch Power Manager

I thought the switchable graphics come standard out of the box?  Any thoughts?

Do you have Vista as well?  From what I know, the switchable graphics only work with Vista right now.  If someone knows otherwise, I'd love to find out how to work this in XP
