Hi Zach,

I have not seen a 9-cell in person, nor do I have the measurements yet, but my guess is that the 9-cell will not stick out much more (if any) than the 7-cell. Due to the angled design, the additional size from the extra cells is not extended straight out the back of the machine and I would expect the size to remain at about what the 7-cell was. I will hopefully have the 9-cell measurements in a day or two, stay tuned.

And it is likely too late to change the battery, but the sales team are the only ones to answer that for sure. Regardless, any change now might delay your order, so I would keep that in mind as well. Sorry for the confusion here, hopefully we'll have it cleared up shortly.

Ah, I completely forgot about the angled design for a sec... you're probably right that the 9-cell is somewhat similar in depth to the 7-cell.  I may end up still getting an extra 6-cell, but now I'm not as worried.

I just got a t61 with a 6 cell battery, but it only lasts 2 hrs, is that normal?

I received my T400 w/6-cell battery a couple of days ago, and for the first time today used it unplugged. I had read that the 6-cell battery was supposed to last 5.5 hours, but with all of the power management options turned down to their minimums, my laptop estimated only 2 hours of use. Not sure what is going on here.

As I responded in another thread it takes a few depletion/charge cycles for the battery to gain its full capacity. Give it a few days.

Hi Tim --

I want to buy an additional battery for my T61 14.1"  laptop, purchased in November 2007.  I bought the 6-cell 42V9338 originally. 

I am confused about the availability of the 7-cell 41U3197 in your discussion in the original post.

I cannot see info on the Lenovo site about which currently-available batteries are intended for my model of laptop -- only that certain batteries do not work for the 14" widescreen laptop. (I assume that my laptop is in this category of some batteries not-working)

Seems like the idea that T400 and T61 batteries are compatible is incorrect.  I just received a 9-cell 40Y6797 which seems to be compatible with a T61 and it is *not* compatible with my T400.... a $100 mistake with restocking and shipping fees needed to switch to a  7-cell 41U3197 in time for a trip.  If it doesn't work for my T400, expect another posting soon.

Howard - Sorry, I meant to add some info about the 7-cell. It may still be available depending on your country and purchase source (Lenovo direct, business partner, reseller, etc), so my best advise is to check with your preferred purchasing source and ask directly. We are not going to be offering the 7-cell going forward and it has been officially phased out for a few months now, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to find one.

The 40Y6797 is for the T500 and T61 15.4" - this is the traditional 9-cell battery that is also used on T60 and previous models. The 9-cell you need is 43R2499. Please take a close look at my original post.
