T400 integrated video artifacts

I have a ThinkPad T400 2765-N8G with switchable graphics running Windows 7 Professional x64. Discrete grahpics adapter works fine, but when I switch to the integrated graphics, I often get artifacts that are easier to show than to describe (see the picture below, this is what I really see). Of course, I have all the latest drivers and system updates installed. Can you help me with this problem?

Re: T400 integrated video artifacts

kosmos,

I had a T400 last year and was playing around wit it and installed it with Win 7 Ulti x64 ... I didn't not get this issue when I was using it .... Was wondering if this is appearing in all browsers? Also only when you are using the browser?

Any chance if you have 2 dimm RAMs installed? Try using it with 1 Ram only and see if problem persist.

Re: T400 integrated video artifacts

ExJamJus,

No, it's not a browser issue, it occurs in any opened program, more or less randomly. But the process of windows boot/shutdown is always free from artifacts.

Yes, I have additional 4 Gb RAM module installed. Not sure if those artifacts appeared before installation of this module. I will try to remove this module and check, but don't want to lose 4 of 6 Gb of RAM..

Re: T400 integrated video artifacts

I think the T400 requires the RAM sticks to be of equal size, if you use more than one.

No.

I've had 4GB vs. 6GB in the same machine, no issues whatsoever.

Cheers,

George

Re: T400 integrated video artifacts

Am just taking a stab in the dark here since you mentioned that the artifacts only happen when using Intel Integrated and not in discrete so I thought it might be RAM caused since Intel uses RAM.

Were you having this issue earlier or happened when you install the RAM? I guess remove the additional ram first to narrow down the cause.

[ Edited ]

try switching off the VT-d from the bios menu if you are not using Virtualisation feature.

In windows 7 with the Intel 4500 MHD, you are required to use single ram stick or dual ram stick of same size to avoid the screen artificate problem.

Re: T400 integrated video artifacts

Switching off the VT-d helped. I do not use virtualization and don't want to change the available RAM size, so it seems the best solution for me so far.

Re: T400 integrated video artifacts

Kosmos

Have you tried setting your power options to high/max performance as a test?

I know it's basic .........but I had trouble with T400 integrated graphics artifacts on power saving settings years ago & that was the easy fix!
