T400 rejected WAN

Hi!

I have a T400 an purchased the Ericsson F5521gw WAN card from the Lenovo shop. The problem is when i connected it and started my computer i saw that the hardware was black listed by the BIOS. It says "please remove the WAN card". There is drivers for the T400 here support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018764 , so if i can remove the BIOS lock it will work. Please help me!

Hi and welcome,

First, I don't know anything about the hardware in question - although I do have a T400...

The driver README that you linked to says that support for the T400 was dropped several versions ago.  It does say "Note: They are supported with the previous version, 6.3.3.6 (83Wo12WW)."

That doesn't explain the BIOS blacklist though.  It might imply that an earlier version of T400 BIOS could work.  Perhaps support was dropped in BIOS and the driver at the same time.

That's just a WAG.   (that doesn't make much sense...)

This card will not work on the T400 for the simple fact it never existed when the t400 came out. This card is meant for the more recent T420 series. It will never work unless you find someone who hacks the whitelist out of the BIOS.

A card that fits your machine is for instance the 43Y6537. Please check the following link for the right cards:

You will find plenty of them on eBay.

Re: T400 rejected WAN

Okey,

But i can't buy anything from Ebay because we have special rules in the company.

This means that you can't buy any hardware to your Lenovo that comes after the computer is released?

I've only had this computer for 1.5 year.

Yes and no. When it comes to WWAN and WIFI cards indeed you are limited to hardware that is listed by Lenovo as being compatible due to the fact that compatibility is enforced by the BIOS built-in blacklist/whitelist method.

When it comes to other components such as larger hard drives, RAM etc, there usually are no issues.
