T410 shuts down when powered on

Our 1 1/2 year old T410 displayed the 'Fan Error" message on power on.  We took it in for service and the technician cleaned the fan and said the fan was now working fine.  However, now when the T410 is powered on it displays the ThinkPad opening screen and then to the blinking cursor in the upper left, and then promptly shuts down.  Pressing the ThinkVantage button during the opening screen does not do anything and still the same shutdown.  Doing this several times in a row seems to get to the shutdown quicker.  The technician stated he thought the issue was with a burned out CPU or motherboard and would be approximately $800 to repair.  Any thoughts if this is correct?

Prior doing anything I'll try removing the memory and plug 'em in again.

I noticed your discribed behavior on my desktop pc. Pulling out and plugging back in all memory modules resolved that problem for me. Perhaps that'll work for you, too.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Gave it a try, but still the same issue.

It looks like quite a few of the T410 have faulty fans. Lenovo is replacing the fans.

1. 45M2721 ->replaced with 45M2723
2. 45M2722->replaced with 45M2724

It's probably not the motherboard. I would give Lenovo's Tech support a call and see if they will fix it under warranty / for free. Even if you are out of warranty, they might fix it for free. Since this is a wll documented problem with this model
