I resolved my issue with this.

 

I found out it was the Fingerprint reader that was causing the problem. As soon as I disabled it, my machine is running perfeclty again. What would happen was after coming out of "sleep" the machine would have Hard disk activity and I was only very intermittently able ot interact with the desktop, but it would cycle agian into the windows "hour-glass".
