T420 - Using only discrete GPU or Intergrated GPU (Optimus / Switchable models only)

Question

Is it possible to disable the integrated graphic card and use only the dedicated one?

Answer

This is only applicable if your system has Nvidia Optimus or Switchable graphic card options.

 

  1. Boot up the laptop
  2. In ThinkPad logo screen, press F1 to boot into BIOS
  3. Select Config
  4. Select Graphics
  5. Graphics Device -> Intergrated (Intel) / Discrete (Nvidia) / Optimus (Both)
  6. OS Detection for Switchable Graphics -> Disabled.
  7. Press F10 and Yes to save BIOS settings.
