T420 fingerprint reader only works for start-up

I received my new T420 yesterday. Totally love it, except I'm having trouble with the fingerprint reader. I works fine for Windows 7 Pro start-up. It does nothing for passwords on websites, files, folders, etc. I installed and re-installed the driver and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hello andyems10,

Ensure you have Lenovo Client Security Solutions installed.

Re: T420 fingerprint reader only works for start-up

I have the ThinkVantage Password Manager installed. this is a new machine running W7 Pro, 64bit, with IE9. I called in to Tech Support and he dialed in to my system, went to the ThinkVantage tools program and installed the Password Vault . He said I needed to install that program to get it to work. Its installed, and starts on the task bar/start up when I turn on the computer. I can open the Password Manager and it's set to work with IE which I am using. It's not set up to exclude anything on it. I even tried to use the "Type and Tranfer Tool" and tried to copy into some of the blanks fields on websites. Nothing happens. It will not copy anything to any of the fields. I told windows to remember some of my passwords to see if it would bring up the fingerprint reader options that way, but it does nothing after I tell it to remember passwords. Don't know what I need to do from here. All it does is just log me on to windows when i start the computer, other than that it sets useless.

Re: T420 fingerprint reader only works for start-up

@andyems10,

Here is how I set my password manager. I swipe fingerprint to boot up the PC then it will login to Windows normally too.

Then when I open applications such as Lotus Notes or SameTime, it would prompt for a fingerprint, then once I swipe it, it will automatically fill in the password blanks for Lotus Notes and SameTime. If I were to close Lotus Notes or Sametime, it wouldn't prompt for a fingerprint anymore thus you wold need to swipe only once.

Did you get a prompt if you were to login any accounts such as emails when you are using IE? You should get a prompt to remember the password using password manager.
