T420 mSATA SSD support - any additional configuration required?

While upgrading T420 RAM, i noticed a free PCI-e slot for attaching a WWAN card. I happened to have a 16GB mSATA SSD so i popped it in and booted the machine. It greeted me with an error detecting the mSATA SSD... 

 

Are there any BIOS configuration changes required to get the mSATA SSD detected or could the problem be with the SSD itself.
