Jamez,
Really, this thread is seven months old, and I have a $1400 laptop that sounds like a hairdryer. What can we do about this? I am so, so incredibly frustrated with this, I am genuinely ready to get another laptop.

JameZ,
Here I am on a new T420S that this fan is driving me nuts it is so ridiculously loud and I get the feeling after I finish these 70+ pages nothing can or will be done about it.
No external monitor and not doing anything except typing.
So, why not tell me how I can repackage this unit and send it back.
It will save time.

Here are a few pictures to support our point. It was recorded with sensord and rrdtool (on Linux):
The temperature of the last few hours after a cool start:

The data points are taken in 5-minute intervals.
The Fan speed of the last few hours:

After switching it on this morning there was a short period of 2000 rpm (I believe also 2 - 3 minutes of 3.5 k) fan speed before it reached 4k.
The temperature of the last 24h:

In the picture above you can see a period of high temperature due to a stuck process. During the night hours my computer was switched off. Hence no data during this period.
Fan speed of the last 24h:

The fan speed remains constant at 4k except the brief period (ca. 15 minutes) after a cool start.
Question to Lenovo: Is it supposed to look like that? What temperatures/fan speeds did you see during your tests?

This is a great job. It summarizes perfectly the behaviour I am seeing. 4000 RPM, ever!
Any news on this? Is there any engineer out there?

So I have contacted Customer Support in the US, and they were completely unaware of this issue. They are insisting that I send in my laptop to replace the fan, and will not escalate this until I get the fan replaced, which we all know is not the cause of the issue.
Any fan that can run at 4000 RPM 24 hours a day is working pretty well!
I'm not sure where to go from here. CS doesn't know there is an issue, and won't help. There are no other contacts beyond web sales, which doesn't reply to emails.
Does anyone else have any good contact numbers or emails available?
