Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

For whatever good it may be, I'm adding my two cents worth:

I just reported in a different thread that my T510 is putting out noticeably hotter air than it used to. I have this machine for about one year and a half and only very recently I started noticing this issue.

Someone replied and suggested that I install TPFancontrol to check temperatures before I do anything else. This was earlier today and I still did not install the suggested piece of software and I wonder whether I do need it.

Now, after reading your posts, I went to my Update History and, voila, Lenovo - Display - ThinkPad Display 1600x900 was installed on 5/12/2012 !!!...

Will this just be a coincidence or is the unusual heating-up on my machine somehow related to the issue you guys have been reporting?

Just wondering !!!

Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

I had another machine today, out of the box 3 weeks and received the fan failure message this morning.

Trying to spin the fan manually it's scraping, grinding and getting hung up.

I'm starting to see more phsyical failures on these fans.

Lenovo still distributes the same part back (FRU 04W1712)

Pleon,

I understand you uninstalled "Lenovo - Display - ThinkPad Display 1600x900".  How is it going so far?

Kicker774,

What machine do you have and what do you intend to do about this problem?

Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

For the average consumer yes I would recomend they get a refund.

As a Warranty Lenovo tech however at my company, I don't get paid unless I repair the unit.

Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

Ah, feel sorry for you, you have big ordeal ahead before getting a quiet laptop, given that nobody at Lenovo cares about it.

Mine has been silenced via software, however it is a bad solution, and I believe I am reducing its life spawn. Not that I care too much, when the laptop dies, that will be the opportunity for buying something that works better than this junky machine!

Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

Well, i just did it in Device manager, open properties of that Lenovo device and on Driver Tab there is a possibility to uninstall. In dialog box check the checkbox to physically delete the driver from the disk. Thats all.
