I got my T430s a month ago and I found some issues. One of them is the volume button is not working when I use some softwares, such as Vmware Workstation 8.0.4(but the brightness adjustment works fine) and KMplayer(the mute button not working).
The volume button is also not responsive as previous Thinkpad models(I used X200 and X201). Sometimes I press it several times and the volume didn't change so keep pressing it, but then suddenly the sound jumped to very loud and the indicator bar showed on the screen simutaneously. I think it may caused by some bugging drivers. Anyone met the same issue? Hope lenovo engineers can solve this problem.

It sounds like it could be a driver issue. Here is your keyboard/mouse driver:
and hotkey driver here:
You may also want to run ThinkVantage System Update (linked below if you need it).
Let us know if this helps.

You may want to try uninstalling the drivers you have and reinstalling from the links I posted just to make sure that's not the problem. Sometimes the drivers have been updated recently and haven't been picked up yet by System Update.
You may also want to try the same with your audio driver.
This has helped solve issues for other users.

I already installed these drivers you posted. But the issue is still there. Since before I post the issue, all my drivers are all up to date. So I saw no difference between your drivers and mine.

The volume/mute button is not working only under some circumstance as I described before: full-screen using Vmware Workstation 8, or use KMplayer playing videos. Other time, they work ok except delayed response sometime. So, they are not fully disabled. Other parts of the keyboard work fine and no issues. So I don't think the issue is caused by keyboard itself.
There are other people with same issue: #894

This might sound like a strange request but I want you to download and install the Power Management software and driver.
Here is the Program:
Here is the Program:
The Power Manager contains bits and pieces of the other drivers by Lenovo. When there is a small problem, Like the one you are having, where something works most of the time the driver is missing something to keep it from stopping. A lot of times it has to do with the Power Manager software.
If you already have this on your computer, save the files from the link above to your desktop or where you can find them.
Once they both are saved, Uninstall your current Power Manager driver and program.
once done reinstall from the file you previously saved. This will put a new coat of this driver on your computer.
I hope this helps,
