T500: No Hibernation after HDD Change

Hi, T500. The HDD started to fail some tests and Lenovo was kind enough to change it (still in extended warranty, 3 years). I performed ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery to transfer the stuff via DVDs to the new HDD. Everything is fine, but Startup->Hibernation doesn't work any more. It performs a Log Off. The Log Off per se, Sleep and other commands are acting properly. BTW, the C: and S: disks were left alone, but the labels of the Q: and E: disks (a separate partition I defined) were swapped. The contents are all there. Any ideas?

What operating system?  One of these procedures may help, although if you can see a hibernate option now, the symptoms aren't quite what you describe.

(they are basically the same command line - I don't recall if both forms work on both Vista and 7)

Both solutions look fine, but don't work for me, sorry. 

Called from any button, the Hibernation functionality isn't there:

The "Moon" blinking doesn't start;

The screen goes in Log Off, instead of being blanked;

The disk continues to turn, even after waiting for minutes.

The Sleep performs as before, perfectly.

Now, the old disk was a bit damaged, and at Rescue, the program told me that part of an application couldn't be saved, as it was corrupted:

C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft_n_n_service_datastore ...\sdol

Not sure if that's related to hibernation.

First of all re-assign the drive letters to the state as on the old HDD

(Controlpanel - Administrative Tools - Computermanagement - Diskmanagement)

But the error you mentioned in your last posting seems to be a major problem.

Maybe your backup had tried to backup  corrupted data and could not restore them.

The full name of the file/directory seems to be:

C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-n..n_service_datastore_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_d104e6cf97534cc4\sdohlp.dll

("directory-structure under Windows 7" - your Vista should have a similar)

I fixed the disk labels to what they were before. Still the same in terms of hibernation.  BTW, I went into Control Panel and made sure I have the same setup for advance power mgmt re sleep and hibernation as on the other HDD.

BTW, I still have the old HDD around and I checked the number of directories

in

C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows

containing "datastore" in their names is the same (8),

so I guess it probably it was just a file (dll perhaps), not a folder, that I remember having to skip during Rescue on DVDs as it was rejected as corrupt. I don't have its full name, but I could find it after some comparison with the old system.

Even if I have its name, how would I go about replacing just such a component?

It might not be related to Hibernation, still I'm of course concerned.

The only hope for getting an absolutely clean system would be to go to the

factory OS Recovery Disks with  (which I have) with Vista Ultimate SP1, then add the SP2, but I would need to add lots of applications and data that I added in between.

Sorry, i've forgotten to add "Found under Windows 7" in my posting above, but the Vista file- and directory structure is similar.

You are right with the numbers of directories. - I'd just googled for it and found on trojan boards in the posted logfiles three and more directories you mentioned containing that DLL.

Sorry, but i've no idea, how to fix - maybe Google resp. MS-Support pages might help, if you search for the DLL file name.

It's not surprising, that fixing the drive letters did not "repair" your hibernation problem, but a couple of the Thinkvantage toole need the correct letters to work properly f.ex. Rescue and Recovery.

Oh, definitely, and I appreciate your help.

Now, what I've discovered is that there are "drivers" for T500 power management, but I couldn't find any for Vista Ultimate, just for XP, etc.

Perhaps I should update some drivers.  This is common after R & R.

Remove the Thinkpad PM Driver from Controlpanel - Programs and Functions and install it new:

I updated the PM driver as per your advice, then I

reactivated hibernation with

powercfg /hibernate on

Unfortunately, no changes.

However, I appreciate your help in removing one path for cause.
