I decided to open a case even though I'm currently in Italy. After running pointless test and removing the hard drive to see if the noise was still there (it was) they decided to pick up my machine.
Further updates to come...
--------------------------------------------------
Laptop was picked up on October 25th, 2011. I am correctly in Europe, it was sent to Germany. Had to pay for my own box etc. On November 9th, 2011 I received it. Would of taken less time but they had to order the motherboard. They replaced my motherboard and hard drive.
They managed to only reduce the loudness of it, I'm so used to it I can hear it from outside my house, no but I can still hear it while I'm at my desk, it's just not as loud.. They replaced the hard drive with a really noisy WD one. So loud you think it's the fan but it's not. Also, they downgraded my OS from 64-bit (which is what I ordered) to 32-bit and when I opened the RAM to check it out it seems like there's only a 2GB slot instead of 2, 2GB slots making it 4GB of RAM which is what I ordered. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong! When I go to system information it says I have 4GB or RAM. I'm confused.
Since they downgraded the OS and what seems like the RAM, I opened a complaint on November 14th, 2011. The representative said it's going to take time of course (smh) Sent her the laptop receipt with all the specs. Called her today to check and of course nothing new (November 21st, 2011). Going to check back with her on Friday...
So in a nutshell I sent my T510 to only have the noise REDUCED, have both my OS and RAM downgraded. Ridiculous.
Not happy with you Lenovo

UPDATE December 1st, '11
They are sending me a copy of WIN 7 PRO 64-bit but for some reason they are saying I had 2GB of RAM when they received it. Sent them the receipt of my order with all the specs highlighting that I should have 4GB because that's what I paid for.

I'm glad that some of you got this fixed.
Right now I'm out of wrranty, however at the time I still had it and went to a local Lenovo service representative, they said it's all good, it's how it should be... they even told me that they replaced the System board and it had the same sound... which I doubt to be honest.
Anyway, would this be a valid argument to get it fixed with no charge?
Thank you in advance.

Hi All!
I had my mainboard (T410s) changed today but it was not successful regarding the noise.
Does anyone have a T410s (i5 M560) without that terrible whining noise?
To compare - im listening to silent music (but understand the lyrics) while im typing this and still hear the noise coming from the laptop!
Only when the fan goes to level 3 (TPFC) the whining sound is to silent to hear..
It is really annoying - will open support calls until this is solved.. fortunately I have 3 years left on warranty.
Regards, Jens

Hello there.
I have a t410s and have been experiencing this problem with the noise. I sent it to service. All was replaced but no luck. What are my options here?
Could I demand a upgrade to a 420s?
I bought this laptop so I could mainly use it for my work, but because of this sound I cannt. It is driving me crazy!!!
Should I take this to my lawyer?

It's ridiculous I sent mine twice in for a "repair" of this gosh-darn-it noise and all they did was replace meaningless parts, completely avoiding the problem. I told them I wanted to open a customer complaint then after like 2 months I got an email from a manager saying to some other higher up that if I do open a complaint it will get rejected some outlandish thing like that.
I’m beyond disappointed Lenovo. Now I got a whiny noise in the background irritating the heck out of me smh! Thanks.

So I should after all hand this to my lawyers.

Hi All,
I know it does not solve the problem, but it seems that Lenovo cannot help here, since it is an intel problem.
It seems that the whole chipset series has this whining problem. The T420/T520 series already use a new chipset
without these problems..
The only compromise is to switch of the automatic CPU throttling.
The whining is nearly gone, but when you are on battery you will loose a couple of minutes..

Jens
